WHAT TO EXPECT
Drawing from my long experience teaching acting at top universities, my extensive work as an actor and director in the theatre, as well as writing, producing and directing feature films I have created a course of study that bridges academic training with the needs of the profession. These classes prepare you to face any acting challenge with the firm conviction that alludes many actors – “I know what I’m doing.” More than that, you’ll find your self thinking “I can kick this role’s ass.” Audiences and casting directors will watch, mesmerized while you do just that.

CLASSES
ACTING FOUNDATIONS
(8 Weeks)
In this we will lay a conceptual groundwork and build upon that with a series of Meisner-based repetition exercises - from simple interactions to complex, improvised scenes based on imaginary relationships and deep emotional preparation. The purpose is to learn to work off of a scene partner in truthful ways that utilize the entire breadth and depth of your unique humanity. From there we will move on to scene work where you will learn to analyze text based on the principles of Practical Aesthetics (pioneered by David Mamet & William H. Macy). We will harness the power of action, as a means of creating truthful behavior and compelling characters. By the end of this class you will have a concrete approach to preparing, rehearsing and infusing dynamic life into any role you are called upon to play.

SCENE STUDY
(Ongoing)
In this class you will continually hone and develop the skills and techniques you learned in Acting Foundations. You will choose and/or be assigned material that pushes your boundaries. It is an ongoing workout where you will not only explore scenes of varying styles, but you will also tackle challenges from your professional career – auditions, monologues, scenes etc. Your experience in this class will be tailored to your own personal goals and artistic path.
ONCE A WEEK 7:30-10 pm
Cost: $225/Month
Admission requires completion of Acting Foundations and/or permission of the instructor.
PRIVATE COACHING
Have a one-on-one work session with Matt Toronto to prepare for an audition, or for an upcoming role on stage or screen. Song coaching also available for auditions, Musicals, Pop, Rock, Classical.
